Site Reliability Engineer (m/f/d)


At Shop Apotheke we are all about health! Our e-pharmacy serves 8.3M+ customers across Europe, and we welcome new users every week. We are growing the existing platform and adding entirely new services to it. Our goal is to enable our customers to live their healthiest lives possible.


We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join. Come, build with us!

Our tech stack includes: Typescript, ES6, React.js, Next.js, Redux.js, Node.js, ESI, Varnish, Docker, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, REST-APIs

What you will experience in this role:

  • You will be the first responder to shop production issues. You will analyze logs, erroneous behavior and general production issues, and you will provide fixes.

  • You will analyze security and report security issues. You will pre-qualify these and either solve them immediately or route them to the appropriate team.

  • You will regularly take on call duty with a group of other Engineers from the team

  • You will provide resilience testing and you will improve system resilience overall. You do so by concepting, discussing it with the appropriate teams and working together to implement it.

  • You will be responsible for our central traffic component: Varnish Cache

  • You will be part of the Software Development Team. You will interact daily with Software Engineers from your cross functional team and you will regularly be in touch with colleagues from the Operations team.

Your profile:

  • You love to investigate situations to gain a deep root cause understanding, even in tense situations.

  • You enjoy diving into complex systems and working in a production environment with high traffic and real time transactions. You acknowledge the value of system stability for the business and for the customers.

  • You have a background in System Administration. You have experience with Linux and with configuring and operating Varnish Cache.

  • You have good knowledge of databases and application runtimes such as MySQL, MongoDB, Node.js or Tomcat.

  • You have at least scripting skills and are not afraid to dive into application code written with Javascript, PHP, Typescript or Java. You acknowledge that reading code and / or writing it helps you better understand problem causes.

  • You are interested in e-commerce.

  • You have an understanding of how Kubernetes works and runs workloads.

  • You are familiar with searching through logs and reading monitoring metrics in Kibana, Grafana or similar tools.

  • It is a nice-to-have if you have experience with APM tools like Elastic APM, New Relic or similar.

Remote work:


Our offices remain open, but you are free to work from home, from any location in Germany.


We have anchor days on which every team member is asked to come to the office. We meet in person once a month. In the future, we foresee the possibility of two team meetings per month. This means that you will be asked to come to one of our offices (Berlin) in person once or twice a month.
